Historic India Gate, Delhi

India Gate constructed in 1931 is amongst top places to visit in Delhi. It was built as a memorial for the 82000 army soldiers who sacrificed their lives in World War I.

Close to 13000 names of the servicemen is inscribed on the monument which also includes some of the officers & soldiers from United Kingdom.

As India was under British rule at that time so India gate was designed as typical Triumphal Arch similar to Europe and is usually compared to Arc de Triomphe from Paris.  It is located in the center of Delhi directly connected to the Rajpath on the ceremonial axis of the city.
